Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is under an ‘all-time high’ threat and unprecedented measures are being taken to ensure his well-being, Hindustan Times has reported.

New guidelines have been issued by the Home Ministry for the PM’s protection and his close protection team has been briefed about the new security measures. Security has been directed to frisk even ministers and officers before meeting the PM if necessary.

The new guidelines follow closely in the heels of a letter being discovered in New Delhi with a plan to assassinate the PM. Five people connected to the banned terrorist organisation CPI (Maoist) have been arrested in connection with the letter.

During a visit to West Bengal, a man was able to break through six layers of security to touch the PM’s feet leaving his security detail in a tizzy. The incident, coupled with the letter have led to the Home Ministry reviewing the PM’s security structure.

Along with Left extremists, security agencies are also reportedly monitoring the Islamist organisation, PFI closely.

The last four years of the NDA government have witnessed a massive government crackdown on Left extremism with the radical movement almost on its death bed. The risk of an attack from such organisations is hence high. Maoist affected states have hence been asked to take extra care when the PM visits them.
