PM Modi Vows To Take India’s Renewable Energy Generation To Over 450 GW After India Achieves 175 GW Goal By 2022

Upping India's commitment to a cleaner world with more dependence on renewable sources of energy, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Monday (23 September) said that after India installs 175 GW of renewable energy, his government's goal will be upgraded to 450 GW, reports Economic Times.
Asserting that time for talking over climate change is over and that it is time to act now, PM Modi said, "We must accept that if we have to overcome such serious challenge, then what we are doing today is not enough. What we need is global behavioural change, India is here today not just to talk about this serious issue but to present a roadmap. In India, we are going to increase renewable energy capacity."
In a symbolic gesture, PM Modi is also to inaugurate the Gandhi Solar Park at the UN headquarters in New York which has been constructed at a cost of $1 million, borne by the Government of India. The park has 193 solar panels, one each for each member country at the UN.
Presently on a visit to the United States, PM Modi underscored that India was determined to increase the share of non-fossil fuel-based energy in its overall energy mix.
