Muzaffarnagar Police
A police party in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar was attacked by locals when they were conducting a raid based on information of cow slaughter in Nagar Kotwali area. Stones were pelted at the police party and their vehicle was vandalised.
The police had gone to raid a neighbouring village over complaints of cow slaughter. While returning from the village, they chanced upon some people selling meat on the side of the road. When the police tried to enquire, villagers attacked the police party. A number of policemen were injured in the attack.
According to the Superintendent of Police Ombir Singh, gunshots were fired by the villagers and the mob eventually managed to free the three men arrested by the police in connection with cow slaughter. Additional police teams had to be rushed to rescue the policemen who were injured in the incident. The police team that raided the village recovered animal carcasses, 15 kg meat and equipment used for slaughter. The meat recovered from the house has been sent for a forensic test.
Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order Aditya Mishra on Tuesday stated that action will be taken against the names registered in this case.
"Three people have been arrested so far in this matter. There was a protest by the crowd earlier in the day. In terms of law and order, the environment is peaceful now. Enquiry will be done against those whose names are registered in this case,” Mishra said, informing reporters about the incident.
