Delhi Police said on Thursday (29 June) that they have built a "watertight" case to ensure the accused receives the death penalty for the planned murder of a 16-year-old girl in the Shahbad Dairy area.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dependra Pathak said, "This was a case of well-planned murder, which was carried out in revenge. We have all the evidence and, within a month of incident, we have submitted the charge sheet to get justice for the family of the victim."

He added: "We carried out the investigation with a professional and focused approach in the Sakshi murder case and filed a charge sheet before the court in record time. We have tried to make the case as watertight as possible so that the accused gets the harshest punishment, which is death sentence."

Sahil, the man accused of repeatedly stabbing and bludgeoning the minor girl to death in full public view in northwest Delhi's Shahbad Dairy locality on 28 May, faces charges as the police have filed a charge sheet against him.

Court sources have revealed that a 640-page charge sheet, including sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, has been filed before a POCSO court on Tuesday (27 June), charging Sahil with sexual harassment of a child under POCSO's Section 12.

Sahil has also been charged with murder under IPC Section 302, as well as sexual harassment under Section 354 A, and insulting the modesty of a woman under Section 509, along with the provisions of the Arms Act.

A CCTV camera captured the horrifying murder, showing Sahil thrusting a knife into the girl at least 20 times while several people passed by without intervening to save her.

After the incident, the police stated that she had 34 injury marks on her body and that her skull had been smashed.

They arrested Sahil on 29 May from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.

The police investigation revealed that Sahil and Sakshi were in a relationship but frequently quarrelled. On 27 May, they had a fight, which led Sahil to decide to take revenge and brutally kill her the next day.
