Presidency University and Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the area of modern sequencing technology, Times of India has reported. CNCI is one of the oldest cancer research centres in the country.

This technology is expected to help in sequencing DNA faster for investigation cervical cancer. Presidency University Professor Abhik Saha told Times of India that ‘next generation sequencing’ (NGS) is a new development in the field of sequencing.

The Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia claimed that the MoU would help students of the university get training opportunities at CNCI. She added that the research on cervical cancer was aimed at discovering other causes for the disease apart from known viruses. Presidency University students might also get access to different laboratories under CNCI because of the MoU.

Though the vice-chancellor claims that the university is aiming to develop a cervical cancer diagnostic kit, the CNCI authorities have not commented on the matter.
