Amid rising demand for medical oxygen, Tata Steel has increased its daily production of oxygen to 800 tonnes.

"Tata Steel has further increased supplies of Liquid Medical Oxygen to 800 tonnes per day. Our endeavour to fight against Covid continues. We are closely working with GoI and states to address the demand and save precious human lives," the company said on Twitter.

In addition to this, Tata Group has committed to import 24 cryogenic vessels, containers used for transporting oxygen, to India. Among them, four have already been imported from Germany and are in usage.

The TV Narendran led Tata Group subsidiary is one of the several companies among the public and private sector entities which have been helping the nation meet the surge in demand for medical oxygen due to rising cases of fresh COVID-19 infections in the country.

Other noted private sector entities supplying significant volumes of medical oxygen include Sajjan Jindal led JSW Steel, Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries, Naveen Jindal led Jindal Power and Steel, Lakshmi Mittal led ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel and many more.

Also the Public Sector Enterprises are playing a crucial role in augmenting the supply of medical oxygen.

Presently, the public sector companies under the steel and petroleum ministries are producing 4000 - 4500 MT of oxygen out of the country’s total daily manufacturing capacity of 7000 - 7200 MT.

In a week’s time, the steel PSUs have increased the volume of their dispatch of oxygen from 1700 MT to now 2,894 tonnes of the same on a daily basis.
