Propped Up By NRI Money, AAP Now Disbands All Overseas Units

Last month witnessed a series of exits from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with many big names such as Ashutosh, Ashish Khetan and others resigning from the party and relieving themselves of responsibility.

Increasing factional differences within the party has led to the disbanding of overseas units of the party in the United Kingdom, USA, Canada and New Zealand. Support from these units proved to be very helpful for the party when they contested the Delhi, Punjab and Goa elections.

It was reported a few years back how NRIs had been toiling hard to raise funds for the party, which included cutting down on their lifestyle.

Even in the run up to the Punjab elections, 1000s of NRIs were campaigning for the party in Punjab out of their own expenses.

The party had formally decided on 1 September that they shall be revamping the entire team before the general election. Haryana elections will immediately follow after the general election, for which the party seeks to be prepared, and root out ‘detractors’ and their supporters such as Kumar Vishwas, reports Economic Times.

Another trouble for the AAP has been its rebel MLA from Punjab Sukhpal Singh, who is being supported by the USA and Canada units, and have been a pillar of strength to his latest convention at Bhatinda.

Due to this move by the party, it has upset many Non-Residential Indian (NRI) office bearers of AAP units, and has led to ties being severed between them and the party.
