Pune Deputy Mayor Asks ASI To Reconsider Metro Route Along City’s Kalyaninagar
If ASI does not oblige, the residents say, legal action will be initiated.
Deputy Mayor of Pune, Siddharth Dhende, has asked Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials to reconsider concerns raised regarding the Ahmednagar road metro work, aimed at realigning with Kalyaninagar, the Times of India reports.
Kalyaninagar residents are opposing the realignment and want the metro to be executed according to the original plans. The Deputy Mayor met citizens at the joggers' park on Sunday (3 February) and assured them that if ASI did not clear the project, they will proceed with legal action against the realigned metro route.
Dhende, on Sunday morning (3 February), participated in a bird walk at Dr Salim Ali Biodiversity Park. He showed his support for saving the sanctuary, which is home to various local and migratory birds.
It was necessary to realign a portion of the Vanaz-Ramwadi metro corridor as the National Monument Authority (NMA) had imposed restrictions on the project in front of the Aga Khan Palace, a national monument.
“A similar issue had cropped up at the time of construction of the subway at Jangli Maharaj road. However, the project got clearance from ASI after facts were presented. On the same basis, we have urged the ASI to consider this case after all fact-finding is undertaken and give the project due clearance”, Dhende said.
Dhende said that if ASI did not issue the clearance, “they would definitely take legal action.’
