Protesting farmers from Punjab thrashed and tore apart state BJP MLA Arun Narang’s clothes as he was travelling to attend a press meet in Malout town of Muktsar district. Black-coloured liquid was splashed on Narang as a police officer fell to the ground whilst rescuing him from the violent mob.

Eventually, it took the police around 15-20 minutes to take the leader to a safe spot in a shop that was situated around 100 meters away from the BJP local office. Agitators from the BKU Kadian, BKU Lakhowal and BKU Ekta Sidhupur had gathered together near the party office as Narang reached the town at 3.40 pm.

Black liquid was thrown on the legislator as police tried to get him out of the situation. Later on, the protesters went on to vandalise the BJP office too. The state BJP unit put light on the crumbling law and order situation in the state and demanded the President’s rule in Punjab.

“The beating up of an elected representative is a clear pointer towards it. Capt Amarinder Singh should take moral responsibility for the incident and step down or his government should be dismissed and President’s rule imposed in the state as it has not only failed in protecting the law but is also promoting anti-social elements,” Punjab BJP President Ashwani Sharma was quoted by the Times of India.

The victim MLA also put out his version of the event that unfolded. “I do not know the protesters... They beat me and tore off my clothes. Police had to struggle to take me to a shop. I have apprised party leaders about the incident,” Narang said to the publication.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh has ordered DGP Dinkar Gupta to initiate strict and lawful action against the people that attacked on MLA Narang and clashed with the police officials.
