The Amarinder Singh-led government in Punjab has announced that owners of domestic animals will have to pay taxes, reports ANI.

ANI also reports that people who own dogs, cats, pigs, sheep or deer will pay Rs 250 a year as taxes while those who own buffaloes, bulls, camels, horses, cows or elephants will pay Rs 500 for a year.

The government will also issue a ‘branding code’ to issue identification to animals, similar to what the Central government had proposed for cattle earlier this year.
