Following intelligence suggesting the movement of Zakir Musa, Punjab Police has been put on high alert, reports The Hindu. Zakir Musa, the chief of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, was reportedly near Amritsar a few days ago.

Swarnadeep Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurdaspur, speaking on the issue, said, “We received inputs regarding Zakir Musa’s movement a few days ago near Amritsar, after which we have released and pasted his ‘wanted’ posters across the district”.

Singh added that security had been increased and extra forces deployed. The militant organisation led by Musa is said to owe allegiance to ISIS and has links with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

On Thursday, the Punjab Police’s counterintelligence issued a circular regarding the infiltration of around six to seven JeM terrorists into the Ferozepur area of Punjab from the international border. “They are reportedly planning to move towards Delhi from Punjab side,” read the note issued by the Counter Intelligence Inspector-General.

The note also points out all essential points and routes which need special and strong checkpoints.

On 5 November, two students associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind were arrested by Punjab Police. They were taken into custody in connection with the 14 September Maqsudan Police Station hand-grenade blasts case.
