The issue of Congress President Rahul Gandhi getting the name and dates of his MPhil course wrong in his Lok Sabha election affidavit for Amethi in 2009 elections is again in the public domain.

As per his then election affidavit, Rahul Gandhi studied Developmental Economics in University of Cambridge’s Trinity College in 1995, but the certificate issued by the Department of Development Studies paints a different picture.

As per the certificate, Rahul Gandhi enrolled in a course for Developmental Studies and not Developmental Economics as claimed in the affidavit. Developmental Economics was actually one of the subjects in the course.

Also unlike Rahul Gandhi’s claim, he undertook the course in 2004-05 as opposed to 1994-95. He was enrolled in the college under the pseudonym of “Raul Vinci” which is reportedly a common practice in The UK for VVIP students.

His stint at the course was not too successful as he failed in National Economic Planning and Policy by obtaining 58 per cent marks, the passing grade is 60 per cent. Overall he barely managed to make the cut by obtaining 62.8 per cent marks.

This controversy has again come to light on Social Media over the Congress Party attacking Union Minister Smriti Irani over allegedly changing her degree claims. This led to various social media users including top BJP leaders pointing the mirror at the Congress President.

Subramanian Swamy has also claimed that Rahul Gandhi also did not publish his MPhil thesis. Jaitley has gone a step ahead to claim that the Congress President got an MPhil without a masters degree.
