Rajasthan: National Child Rights Commission Takes Cognisance Of Sexual Assault Of Two Minors

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Thursday (1 October) expressed concern over the abduction and sexual assault of two minor girls in Rajasthan's Baran district.
It took suo moto cognisance of media reports of sexual crimes against the two minors in Baran.
"Prima facie, the case seems to be a violation of provisions of POCSO Act, hence, a detailed report along with the necessary information or documents has been sought from SP, Baran within 48 hours," the Commission said in statement.
At a time when social media is outraged after the alleged rape of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, who passed away on Tuesday, several users have also pointed out minimal media coverage of sexual assault cases from Rajasthan.
Columnist Abhijit Iyer Mitra wrote on Twitter, "16 sexual crimes in Rajasthan in 3 days. You don’t see anyone asking for Gehlot’s resignation do you? Because nobody is actually interested in the victims.... just peddling their 'narratives'."
Social media user named Sushil Sancheti said, "4 Rape case reported in Congress ruled #Rajasthan today. Rapes in Rajasthan haven’t been covered at all in media but #Hathras is getting all the attention and we know what agenda it serves."
