Muslim parties in the Ram Janmabhoomi case on Thursday (26 September) apologised to the Supreme Court for wasting its time by questioning the authorship of the 2003 Archaeological Survey of India report, Press Trust of India reported.

The turnaround came a day after the Muslim parties questioned the report, especially its authorship, claiming that it was full of inconsistencies.

Putting forth his arguments on Thursday (26 September), their counsel Rajeev Dhavan said: "The authorship of the Archeological Survey of India report on Ayodhya cannot be questioned."

“The authorship of the report and the summary need not be questioned. If we had wasted my lords time, then we apologise for that”, Dhavan was quoted as saying.

This apology came after senior advocate Meenakshi Arora who is representing the Muslim parties questioned the ASI report by arguing that while every chapter is attributed to an author the summary is not attributed to anyone.

The Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi meanwhile has asked the counsels of the Hindu and Muslim parties in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case to strictly abide by the 18 October deadline to wrap up their arguments.
