The Trinamool Congress (TMC), along with other prominent opposition parties, is fumed with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M.K Stalin’s pitch for Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister.

“We have taken this very seriously. The entire Opposition is taking a closer and serious view of it. The presentation or announcement of any name is not welcoming. This could harm the unity amongst the Opposition parties,” said one of the senior leaders in the TMC as reported by India Today.

The fume from the TMC came shortly after Congress’, with little help from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP), won the Bharatiya Janata Party-dominated states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

MK Stalin, on the inauguration ceremony of MK patriarch M Karunanidhi's statue, proposed Rahul Gandhi as the new Prime Minister to end the ‘fascist’ Modi government.

Stalin’s proposal has also been criticised by Samajwadi Party, which said that mandate of the people decides on the Prime Minister.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), SP and BSP all disagree with DMK chief’s statement and have cited it as ‘premature’ and have said that it dilutes the unity amongst the opposition, which stands as a united front against the Narendra Modi led BJP government.

The statue inauguration ceremony was attended by top leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Chandrababu Naidu, Pinarayi Vijayan with likes of Rajnikanth as well. Sonia Gandhi unveiled Karunanidhi's statue.
