Kedarnath temple authorities expect a record number of 10 lakh pilgrims to visit before the temple closes for the year in October. The steep rise in the number of pilgrims visiting the hill shrine is seen as a vindication of the efforts of Prime Minister Modi in rebuilding the temple town after the deadly floods of 2013.

N P Jamloki, the publicity officer of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temples Committee said, “Never before have so many pilgrims come to Kedarnath. We expect 10 lakh pilgrims here by the time the temple closes for this year in end of October. The attention that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought to Kedarnath post the 2013 floods has increased the faith of people in the shrine.”

Among the improvements undertaken in respect of the facilities for pilgrims visiting the hill shrine are the widening of pedestrian path, almost 50 feet in some places, and the provision of lodging, boarding and refreshment facilities along the pilgrimage route.

It is said that the Prime Minister was personally involved in monitoring the improvement works and is also expected to visit the hill shrine soon.
