Record 10.23 Lakh Covid-19 Tests Conducted On Friday, Over 3.44 Crore Samples Tested So Far: ICMR

India has achieved a milestone by conducting 10 lakh Covid-19 tests in a single day with over 10.23 lakh samples being tested on Friday (21 August), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data has revealed.
Over 3.44 crore samples have been tested across the country for the disease so far, according to the ICMR.
At present, a total of 1,511 laboratories have been conducting the Covid-19 tests across the country. Of these, 983 are government while 528 are private laboratories.
As many as 10,23,836 samples were tested for Covid-19 on 21 August, the ICMR said.
"The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 21 August is 3,44,91,073 including 10,23,836 samples tested on Friday," said the ICMR in a bulletin shared on Twitter on Saturday (22 August).
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in India rose to over 29.75 lakh on Saturday, with 69,878 new coronavirus cases and 945 deaths reported in the country in the last 24 hours.
Currently, 6,97,330 cases are active and 22,22,577 people have recovered from the disease in India. As many as 55,794 fatalities have been reported in the country so far.
