The New Delhi Railway Station may get a facelift soon as the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Railways, plans to redevelop the busy transit point in the capital on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept, reports MoneyControl.

RLDA plans to conduct virtual roadshows with investors and developers from countries like Singapore, Australia, UAE, and Spain in this regard.

The New Delhi railway station is situated in the prime area of Delhi with commercial hub Connaught place and headquarters of many important institutions located nearby. The station is also connected by both airport line and yellow line of Delhi metro which connect various parts of the capital.

The station would be developed on a Design-Build Finance Operate Transfer (DBFOT) model for a concession period of 60 years with a capital expenditure of around 680 million dollars.

An Apex Committee under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has been constituted to expedite the approvals and clearances for the project.

The Master Plan area includes around 120 hectares and 88 hectares is being planned in the first phase of the Project.

Construction of dome-shaped terminal buildings, two Multi-Modal Transport Hubs (MMTH) on each side of the station, 40 floor high rise twin towers for hotels, offices and retail at the podium, and a pedestrian boulevard with high street shopping are part of the project.
