Reliance Industries has announced an expansion of its Jio Mart offering to take on e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart by starting to sell consumer electronics, fashion products and smartphones on the platform, Economic Times has reported.
Jio Mart as a result seeks to become a full-fledged e-commerce venture with a hybrid model involving sellers from Reliance Retail Stores as well as local neighbourhood stores. The platform seeks to cut down on the order delivery time with the help of this model.
As per a source quoted in the report, e-commerce is emerging as one of the biggest bets for Reliance industries in the retail sector. The company plans to deliver grocery and most of its products including electronics within 1-2 hours. Larger electronics goods like washing machines and refrigerators may be delivered by next day.
The company is also planning to unveil a Jio Mart app for placing orders in the coming months.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
