Republic Day Farm Law Protesters' Tractor Rally: SC Says Onus Is On The Delhi Police To Decide Who Will Enter The Capital

While hearing an application filed by the Delhi Police seeking for a ban on the tractor rally planned by the protesting farmers in Delhi on Republic day, the Supreme Court firmly placed the obligation of dealing with the proposed event on Delhi police, reports LiveLaw.
On Monday, a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI ) S.A. Bobde suggested that it was up to Delhi police to decide who will enter Delhi and in what numbers.
"The question of entry into Delhi is a law and order situation that is to be determined by the police. We have told the AG and SG before that who should be allowed and who should not be allowed and the number of people who can enter are all matters of law and order to be dealt with by the police. We are not the first authority. You are at liberty to invoke all powers under the law," CJI SA Bobde told the Attorney General (AG).
According to LiveLaw, at this juncture AG told that the Supreme Court can pass such an order as the entire farmers protest issue has been taken up by the Court. Then the CJI clarified that the Court has not taken up the entire issue and is dealing with only the aspect of protests.
On Sunday, Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar urged the protesting farm leaders to give up their stubborn stand to repeal the new farm laws and come for a clause by clause discussion.
However, the farmers are stuck on their demand of repealing the new laws and said that they are prepared to protest till 2024.
The tenth round of talks between the protesting farmers and the government is scheduled on 19 January.
