Reservation Exemption For Technical, Scientific Faculty Hiring Revoked; IIMs And IITs Directed To Follow Quota Policy

The union government has directed all central educational institutions in the country, among them IITs and IIMS, to make sure that their faculty hiring practises comply with the official reservation policy, reports The Times of India.
This follows the questioning of the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry by a parliamentary committee over the issue. As of now, the official quota policy for faculty recruitment is generally implemented fully by most central higher education institutions barring the IITs and IIMs.
According to the government’s figures, reserved category faculty are underrepresented at both these type of institutions.
Another communication specifically for the IIMs calls for adherence to the quota rules and for taking the varsity as one unit in matters of direct recruitment. Posts of the same grade in different departments are to be looked at together when considering whether reservation requirements have been met or not.
This communication also says that it supersedes all previous directives by the Department of Personnel & Training regarding direct recruitment; till now IIMs were able to skirt reservation rules through a 1975 order creation an exception for technical and scientific teaching positions vis-a-vis reservation.
