In a major development, the Chairman of Railway Board VK Yadav shared that the cycle of reverse migration from the States of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to States like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Ahmedabad had already begun, reports Economic Times.

As per information made public by Yadav, the people who had returned to their home States via Shramik Express trains, have begun returning in the special trains which started operating earlier in the month.

“So far as reverse migration is concerned, it is happening via regular trains,” Yadav reportedly said at a press briefing. He said that booking for trains originating from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where more than 70 per cent of the migrant special trains went, has begun towards Maharashtra, Gujarat and Ahmedabad.

Calling it an encouraging development, Yadav also shared that based on demand and the spread of COVID-19, more passenger trains could be allowed for operation. He added that in the coming weeks or 10 days, the Ministry of Railways will finalise more trains to be operated.

The Railways which had halted over 12,000 passengers trains on 22 March, is presently operating only 230 special trains. These include 30 Rajdhani trains and 200 Mail Express trains which had all begun operations on 1 June.
