Rohith Vemula
Rohith Vemula was not a Dalit, concludes the report of Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande after a review of the Vemula family’s caste status. The report said the Scheduled Caste certificate obtained “fraudulently” by the Vemulas will be cancelled.
Rohith’s mother Radhika Vemula has received a notice which contains the report’s findings and seeks a response as to why their SC certificate should not be cancelled. The Vemulas apparently belong to the Vaddera community, which falls under the Other Backward Classes category.
The notice also says Radhika would have to provide proof in the form of valid documents to back up her claim that they are Dalit -- within the next two weeks -- if they continue to hold that stand.
