Rs 8,000-Crore To Boost Distribution Of Gas Across Maharashtra; 129 Districts To Get Supply Networks In First Round

Over Rs 8,000 crore will be invested over the next two years to set up City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks in towns and cities of Maharashtra, reports Mint. The investment will be made by a consortium of Bharat Gas Resources Ltd, Unison Enviro Pvt. Ltd and Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNG).
While Bharat Gas will set up the infrastructure in the Ahmednagar, Aurangabad Sangli and Satara districts, Union will do the same in Latur and Osmanabad. In Sindhudurg, Valsad, Dhule and Nashik districts, MNG will undertake the construction.
CGD provides crucial infrastructure services to a city’s population as they facilitate the supply of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and PNG (Pipelined Natural Gas) to both residential households as well as commercial establishments.
PM Modi will remotely lay the foundation stone of CGD projects in 65 Geographical Areas (GAs) in 129 Districts on 22 November 2018. The completion of these projects will provide “convenient, environment-friendly and cheaper natural gas for almost half of the country’s population.”
Apart from being 59 per cent cheaper than petrol and costs 41 per cent less than diesel, CNG is also cleaner and pollutes less. When used in motor vehicles, it also offers better mileage than other alternatives.
