Pakistan's hopes to garner support from major international powers to denounce India's scrapping of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir received another blow on Saturday (10 August) as its approach to Russia didn't yield the desired response, reports India Today.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia issued a statement which said, "We proceed from the fact that the changes associated with the change in the status of the state of J&K and its division into two union territories are carried out within the framework of the Constitution of the Republic of India."

Calling the development a matter internal to India carried out within the ambit of the Indian Constitution, Russia added that it has asked India and Pakistan to not let the situation worsen.

Russia further said that it hoped that India and Pakistan would resolve the differences between them through political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis, thus ruling out any case for intervention of any kind, as desired by Pakistan.
