BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur who won from Bhopal after defeating senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh was heckled by opposition members yesterday (17 June) after she decided to honour her guru by suffixing his name during the oath taking ceremony.

While taking oath Sadhvi Pragya tried to add her guru Swami Purna Chetnanand Avdheshanand Giri’s name as a suffix but was shouted down by opposition members who claimed that this practice is not permitted.

The MP in response said that it was her full name, which was mentioned in the form filed by her prior to the oath taking ceremony. This did not go down well with the opposition leaders when then began creating a full blown ruckus.

It has been claimed that as Sadhvi Pragya was taking her oath in Sanskrit, she decided to use her Sanyaas name which also included the name of her guru.

The pro-term speaker Virendra Kumar later ruled that the name present on her election certificate would go on the record. After she finally managed to take oath, she was encouraged by her BJP counterparts who chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogans.
