Varsha Raut, wife of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, repaid a Rs 55 lakh interest-free loan she had taken from PMC bank scam accused’s wife after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned her to seek an explanation, reports The Times of India.

Through a relative, Varsha Raut submitted documents to ED on Monday. The documents show that the loan which was taken a decade ago was repaid using the funds generated from the film ‘Thackeray.’ While Varsha was one of the producers, her husband Sanjay Raut was the writer for this movie.

The ED issued four summons to Varsha Raut since november, 2020. But she had failed to present herself before the officials. On 29 December, she had sought time till 5 January but appeared before the ED on 4 January.

The summons to Raut has been issued under the provisions of the stringent Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED registered a case of money laundering against Housing Development Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL) promoter Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, his son Sarang Wadhawan, Waryam Singh and Joy Thomas, the then Chairman and Managing Director of PMC Bank Ltd, respectively and others on the basis of an FIR registered by the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing in September last year.

The FIR was registered for causing wrongful loss to the tune of Rs 4,355 crore to PMC Bank and corresponding gain to themselves.
