The State Bank of India (SBI) has initiated a new ‘doorstep banking’ service for senior citizens, differently-abled and infirm account holders, reports Ultra News. Visually impaired customers will also be eligible.

Other criteria for availing the facility would be to have a KYC-compliant account, having one’s mobile number registered with the bank, and being domiciled within a five-kilometre radius of one’s home branch.

The services which will be provided at the doorstep of customers include cash pickup and delivery, cheque pickup, cheque book requisition slip pickup, delivery of drafts and term deposit advice, life certificate pick-up and pickup of form 15H which is used for Income tax reasons.

The cost for availing these services would be Rs 100 for each financial transaction and Rs 60 for each non-financial transaction. The customers wishing to avail of the facility would also be required to register for the same at their home branch; they will need to provide a medical certificate in case they’re claiming the benefits of the service under the differently-abled or infirm categories.

Those above 70 years would be treated as senior citizens for the facility.

However, the service cannot be enjoyed by those using joint accounts or non-personal accounts. Minor accounts will also not be eligible.

SBI’s new service comes on the heels of the RBI directing all banks to take necessary steps to cater to the requirements of senior citizens/differently-abled.
