SC Collegium Recommends 20 Names To Centre For Appointment As Judges Of Various High Courts

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended names of 20 advocates for their appointment as the judges of the various high courts, reports The New Indian Express.

The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice Rajan Gogoi and comprising Justices SA Bobde and NV Ramana, considered 35 names for appointment to the high courts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, Calcutta, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Out of these 35 names, 20 were recommended by the Collegium to the Centre for appointment as judges of these high courts.

Deferring the consideration on three names, the Collegium remitted 12 names back to the respective high courts.

The SC Collegium recommended the names of Jaytosh Majumdar, Amitesh Banerjee, Raja Basu Chowdhury, Lapita Banerji and Sakya Sen for appointment as Judges of the Calcutta High Court. Apart from these names, the Collegium also recommend the name fo Kausik Chanda.

It recommended Mahendra Goyal and Farzand Ali for the appointment as judges of the Rajasthan HC.

Jasgurpreet Singh Puri, Girish Agnihotri, Suvir Sehgal, Alka Sarin and Kamal Sehgal were the names recommended for appointment as judges of the Punjab and Haryana HC.

While it recommended names of R Raghunandan Rao, Battu Devanand, D Ramesh and N Jayasurya for being appointed as judges of the Andhra Pradesh HC, names of T Vinod Kumar, A Abhishek Reddy and K Laskhman were recommended for the Telangana HC.
