SC Orders Fugitive Vijay Mallya To Appear Before It On 5 October, Asks MHA To Ensure His Presence

Fraud accused fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has been ordered by the Supreme Court to be present before it on 5 October at 2 PM. It has also directed the Home Ministry to ensure Mallya's presence before the court on the said date.
This directive by the Supreme Court comes after it rejected Mallya's plea seeking review of a contempt of court case wherein he was found guilty in 2017. Mallya had transferred $40 million to his children's accounts in a violation of the apex court's orders.
Mallya is accused of wilfully defaulting on a Rs 9,000 crore loan and its interest payment. He is also accused of money laundering and allegedly cheating nationalised banks to the tune of Rs 6,027 crore.
The Indian authorities have been trying hard to ensure Mallya's extradition to India. He is currently residing in the UK.
