SC Rejects Review Petition By Six Non-BJP Ruled States Seeking Postponement Of JEE Mains-NEET Exams

The Supreme Court on Friday (4 September) rejected a review petition by six non-BJP ruled states which sought a review of the apex court's 17 August order in which it had allowed authorities to conduct the JEE Mains and NEET examination as per schedule.
As per a Times of India report, a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, B R Gavai and Krishna Murari said that there is no merit in the plea. The review petition was filed by ministers of the West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Punjab , Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh state governments.
The petitioners had moved the Supreme Court last Friday seeking a postponement of the engineering and medical entrance exams.
On 17 August while dismissing the pleas seeking a deferment of the examination, the Supreme Court had said that the career of students cannot be put on peril and one academic year cannot be wasted.
"We find that there is absolutely no justification in the prayer made for postponement of the examination in question relating to NEET UG-2020 as well as JEE (Main) April, 2020. In our opinion, though there is pandemic situation, but ultimately life has to go and the career of the students cannot be put on peril for long and full academic year cannot be wasted", said the apex court.
