Security forces on Saturday (25 January) gunned down three terrorists including a top commander of the Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in an encounter in Kashmir Valley's Awantipora, reports Asian News International (ANI).

Of the three killed, Moosa alias Abu Usman and JeM commander Qari Yasir, both were Pakistani residents operating in the Valley. The third terrorist killed was identified as Burhan Sheikh who hailed from Tral region.

The killing of these three terrorists gains significance as earlier on Saturday Commander of the Chinar Corps Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) KJS Dhillon had revealed the aversion of a major potential terror strike in the Valley by JeM terrorists on Republic Day.

During his address to the media, Lt Gen Dhillon had shared that upon reception of information about some JeM terrorists planning an attack, the security forces in the region had launched an operation.
