A team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel gunned down two naxals allegedly involved in the killing of BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi and his four security personnel on 9 April 2019.

The action took place after a skirmish erupted at around 5.30 am at a forest in Daurikakra village in Chhattisgarh, while the DRG was out on an anti-naxal operation, reports The Times of India.

After the firing had stopped, the bodies of two naxals and a .315 bore gun were recovered from the spot, while another injured naxal was found who was then shifted to a local hospital.

The ones killed were then identified as Vargese and Linga, who had allegedly been involved in the 9 April carnage. The MLA's convoy was heading towards Kuwakonda from Bacheli area when the Naxalites blew up their vehicle with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and opened fire at the occupants.

Vargese was a member of Malangir Area Committee of the Maoists while Linga was a member of the local organisation squad in the Katekalyan Area Committee of Maoists, shared Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P while also adding that a search operation was still underway in the region.
