The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines for setting up Centres for Women Studies in colleges and across universities with the aim to build a more inclusive society.
“Women studies centres will have a particular focus on most marginalised and disadvantaged women in the society. These include women from Schedule Caste and Tribes, women with disabilities, women living in unsafe environments, among others,” said a university official.
Furthermore, the official stated that the centre must have a balanced, critical and comprehensive understanding of India’s socio-economic realities and governance. The main components will include women’s contribution to society and social processes with the perception of their own lives, the broader social reality and their aspirations and struggles.
The centre will focus on building new knowledge on women from national and global perspectives, and also on developing a curriculum in women studies in order to meet the diverse needs of Indian women with the focus to create an inclusive society, as reported by Indian Express.
