Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray

Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena which recently joined hands with Congress and NCP to wrest power in Maharashtra, has announced that its MPs would strongly oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill as and when it is tabled in the Parliament, Zee News has reported.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill which has been cleared by the Narendra Modi led Central Cabinet, is expected to be tabled in the lower house in the near future.

The highlight of the bill is to provide citizenship to refugees belonging to religions like Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Christianity, Jainism and Zoroastrianism who have faced persecution at the hands of neighbouring theocratic countries.

As per reports, Shiv Sena has claimed that this bill would pose a threat to national security. It has been opposed vehemently by opposition parties like Congress, Trinamool, DMK, Samajwadi Party, RJD and the Left.

Ever since it switched sides, the Shiv Sena has been moving towards shunning Hindutva in a bid to make itself acceptable for its new alliance partners.
