Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray

In a setback for Uddhavrao Thackeray led Shiv Sena, its alliance partner Congress's senior leader Ashok Chavan has cleared that the former is not a part of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and that the alliance between the two parties is limited to the State of Maharashtra, reports Times of India.

This comes just a day after Shiv Sena's senior leader Sanjay Raut had tried to push for an expansion of the UPA while asserting that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar also enjoyed support across parties like UPA's chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Reacting to Raut's assertion, Chavan, who is also a senior minister in the ruling Government said that it was not proper for Thackeray led the party to comment on UPA's leadership. He stated that UPA allies trusted Gandhi's leadership and that there is no need to discuss the issue.

Chavan also made a mention of Pawar's clarification denying the speculation that he will be UPA's next chairperson.

Chavan's Congress is a part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance establishment which is governing the State of Maharashtra under the leadership of Chief Minister Thackeray aligned by a common minimum programme (CMP).
