Little surprising though, a chief minister washes his own clothes while in treatment for Covid-19. It is none other Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister (CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan who is leading by example being under treatment after he was found coronavirus-positive, and still deems it fit to wash his own clothes.

Chouhan received a corona-positive report on 25 July and has been undergoing treatment at Chirayu hospital set up in the state capital’s Covid centre.

Chouhan held a virtual cabinet meeting on Tuesday (28 July), revealing to his colleagues that the three days he has been in hospital he washed his own clothes and made tea for himself as a healthy person is not supposed to wash the clothes of a Covid-infected person.

He said that he is not suffering from fever, his cough is also under control and is nearing its end, adding, “When my hand surgery was done, physiotherapy did not help as I could not close my fist but washing clothes enabled me to close my fist without physiotherapy. That is why I feel that we should keep doing small tasks ourselves.”

After his reports came, Chouhan became the first chief minster from any Indian state to have been infected with the highly transmissible virus.

He himself broke the news by taking to Twitter. He wrote, "I was showing symptoms of Covid-19. I went through the tests and the results have proven to be positive. I urge all those who came in contact with me in recent days to get themselves tested. All those close to me should go into quarantine."

Chouhan has appealed to the public to get themselves checked for coronavirus and not hide it as it is not an incurable disease.

Earlier this week, MP Cabinet Minister Arvind Bhadoria had also tested positive for Covid-19 who had travelled with CM Chouhan to Lucknow for Governor Lalji Tandon's funeral, The Indian Express reported.

Madhya Pradesh as of Tuesday morning had 7,978 active cases of Covid-19. While 19,791 people have so far been recovered, 820 patients succumbed to the disease.
