In a gruesome incident, a 35-year-old man who went looking for his missing cow was allegedly tied to a tree and his arms cut off by a family of five. The incident took place in a village in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh.

Prem Narayan Sahu, the man whose hands were chopped off, went to Sattu Yadav's farm while searching for his cows at their village. His cow had gone missing on Friday, the Times of India reported. “Sahu's one arm was severed completely,” the report adds.

NDTV quoted police officer Rajendra Kumar Dhurve saying, “When the victim entered the residential premises of Sattu Yadav in order to inquire about his missing cow, a fight followed and the two started abusing each other.”

Both reports mention that villagers did not take any action while the gruesome act was taking place. TOI mentions, “While Sahu kept on screaming for help, many villagers stood mute spectators to the barbaric assault.”

“Throughout the attack, Sahu kept screaming but other villagers allegedly didn't do anything to save him. A video after the attack, apparently taken by villagers, shows Sahu lying down on the ground, bleeding, his legs still tied up. Someone repeatedly asks him to name his attackers. He names a few, and asks for water,” NDTV report adds.

Two of the accused are arrested and three, including a woman, are absconding. “The family has been charged with attempted murder,” NDTV reported. The same report says that Sahu was taken to a hospital in a critical state after neighbours called the police.
