Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah

K Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka plans to construct a 600-crore-per-km tunnel to ease the capital city Bengaluru's traffic woes. This move comes close on the heels of a government decision to scrap a controversial Rs 1,800-crore steel flyover project after a huge backlash from the public.

According t a report in the Financial Express, the proposed project consists of four tunnels that would run from Jalahalli to Goraguntepalya (1.4 km), S R S Road and Pipeline Road, Hebbal to Chalukya Circle (6 km), Peenya (2.25 km), and Nayandahalli to Majestic (8 km).

The report said that Karnataka Development Minister K J George has confirmed contacting a Bulgarian firm on the feasibility of the project.

Residents of Bengaluru have time and again demanded a permanent solution, such suburban trains, or any other inter-city commutation, while the government seems to come up with ideas which are extremely costly and are hazardous to the environment.
