‘Significant Numbers’ Of ISIS Terrorists Operating In Kerala And Karnataka, Claims United Nations Report

In a report prepared by the United Nations (UN)' Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team has claimed that there are "significant number" of ISIS terrorists operating in the States of Kerala and Karnataka, reports Economic Times.
The 26th report from UN's Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team has underscored that the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or Daesh, had announced last year in May that it has established what it calls a new "province" in India identified as "Wilayah of Hind."
"The group reportedly has between 150 and 200 members from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan. The current leader of AQIS is Osama Mahmood..., who succeeded the late Asim Umar... AQIS is reportedly planning retaliation operations in the region to avenge the death of its former leader," it said.
The report has highlighted that this Indian unit of ISIS has between 180 to 200 members in total.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that ISIS executed attacks in the Kashmir valley in the past had been linked to its Khorasan Province’s branch which had been set up in 2015 to cover the territories of Afghanistan, Pakistan and nearby lands.
The report has also noted that the Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) which comprises of 150-200 terrorists who hail from Pakistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and India is planning attacks in these regions.
