Singapore Imposes Stricter Containment Measures Till 4 May, Extends Partial Lockdown Till 1 June

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in an address to the nation announced the extension of the partial lockdown by 30 additional days till 1 June.
In his address Prime Minister Loong said that two weeks into the “circuit breaker” Singaporeans have adjusted to working and studying from home, while taking necessary precautions after stepping outdoors.
The new cases in the country though rose by over 1,000 per day for the second consecutive day to settle at 9,125 since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the number of daily infections falling, the number of unlinked cases have not reduced.
Most of the cases have been detected in the migrant labourer dormitories in the country, which have been dubbed a serious problem by Prime Minister Loong.
Prime Minister Loong announced that Singapore will close more workspaces till 4 May to ensure that only the most essential services remain open, but the situation will not be fully reversed post that date.
He thus added that the circuit breaker measures will remain in place for 30 additional days till 1 June following which it will be reviewed provided the community infection numbers are down.
