The son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday (30 August), Times of India has reported. Salahuddin has been branded a global terrorist by the United States Department of State. The son named Shakeel Yousuf is said to be a laboratory assistant at a government hospital.

Earlier in the year, another son of Salahuddin was arrested by the NIA in connection with the same probe.

Yousuf was arrested from Srinagar’s Rambagh locality and is said to be detained in connection with a 2011 terror funding case where he allegedly received money from his father.

The NIA had filed this case in 2011 within which it has been alleged that money was transferred from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir with Delhi being an intermediary. This money is believed to have been used in funding terror and separatism.

As per the NIA, Yousuf used to receive money from a certain Aijaz Ahmed Bhat. This money was wired via a US-based international transfer company. Bhat is one of the accused in the case, and is currently absconding.
