Soon 5,000 Electric Buses To Ply On Indian Roads; Heavy Industries Ministry Invites EoI Under FAME II Scheme

Jumping into action with the Modi government back in power, the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI) has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) seeking proposals for availing benefits under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Phase-II (FAME II) scheme for the deployment of 5,000 electric buses on the operational-cost-model basis, reports Hindu BusinessLine.

Under the scheme, the Government of India aspires to subsidise the cost of 7,000 electric buses with a total allocation of Rs 3,500 crore out of total scheme outlay of Rs 10,000 crore spanning over three years.

The Government hopes to receive EoIs from states and union territories, government departments, state transport undertakings (STUs), municipal corporations and other public entities interested in deploying electric buses in different cities.

The buses will be sanctioned to different states and cities after the evaluation of proposals received, based on available resources and priorities set by the DHI.

The cities with million plus population as per 2011 census, smart cities notified by the MoHUA, satellite towns connected to seven major metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, major cities of special category states, union territories, the capital cities of all states are eligible to benefit from the scheme.
