The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Wednesday made public the information that soon seaplanes would fly over Tehri lake, to the state's capital city of Dehradun. The state government has already filed an agreement with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in this regard, reports Livemint.

The services are expected to begin by early 2020. As per officials, the services will initially witness 12 to 20 seater seaplanes operate on the route by charging passengers an approximate cost of Rs 5,000 per seat.

Calling it a historic occasion which would go on to give a boost to tourism in the Tehri district, CM Rawat also said that the entire investment for the seaplane project would be borne by the Union government.

A first of its kind waterdrome will be built for this purpose near the Tehri lake which is a huge reservoir of the mega 2400 MW Tehri hydel project, for which the state government has already identified a total lead of 2.5 acres.
