South Bangalore MP Tejaswi Surya has demanded that the National Register of Citizens (NCR) should be extended to Karnataka to weed out over 40,000 illegal Muslim Bangladeshi immigrants who are allegedly staying in the state, Deccan Herald has reported.
While speaking in Lok Sabha during the zero hour proceedings, Surya stated that the illegal Bangladeshis pose a threat to the security of the state.
He added that the illegal immigrants have also become a very serious economic threat to the people of Karnataka by bagging jobs with the help of illegal Aadhaar cards and other identification documents.
Surya alleged that they manage to illegally procure these documents with the help of the state government and other authorities.
He also cited news reports of a Bangladeshi terror module busted in Bengaluru by NIA which also recovered two crude bombs from the home of arrested terror suspect Habibur Rehman.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
