Special Air India Flight Successfully Airlifts 211 Students Stranded In COVID-19 Hit Italy

India has successfully airlifted 211 Indian students studying in Italy which has witnessed one of the biggest outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), reports Asian News International (ANI).

The flight also airlifted seven compassionate cases of the outbreak.

The students have been airlifted in a special Air India flight which took off from Milan in Italy for India on Saturday (14 March). Following the development, the Indian Consulate in Milan has expressed its gratitude to the Air India team and the authorities from Italy for making the evacuation possible.

The evacuation by Air India's special flight comes as students were stuck in Italy because of airlines cancelling flights to Italy which has witnessed as many as 1,411 deaths because of COVID-19 so far, of which 175 were reported on Saturday alone. Even Air India had cancelled all flights to Italy till 30 April.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that India sas carried out evacuations from a host of nations which have been badly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, including Iran, Japan, and China.
