Following its success in winning Indian defence contracts to the tune of $17 billion since 2007, the US is eyeing Aero India 2019 in Bengaluru to showcase its modern aviation offerings to entice buyers, particularly the B-52 Stratofortress Bombers, reports DefenceNews.

Also on display will be C-17 Globemaster-III airlifters, F-16 and F/A-18 fighter jets. The B-52 Stratofortress bombers, manufactured by Boeing, will be coming in from the Andersen USAF base in Guam.

The B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range subsonic strategic bomber, with the ability to carry till about 32,000 kg of weapons and munitions. It can also cover a range of 8,800 miles (12,874 km) without the need for aerial refuelling.

US Ambassador Ken Juster stated that this would be the biggest participation ever of his country at Aero India, where defence and other government officials along with representatives from 28 private firms will be in attendance.

"The US and India are committed to strengthening defence cooperation, in line with India's status as a Major Defense Partner (MDP). Defence acquisitions are an important component in deepening our bilateral ties and contributing to a balanced trade relationship," Juster added.

Recently, India and the US have also seen to be working towards entering into a deal for the Rs 13,500 crore acquisition of 24 multi-role MH-60 Romeo helicopters. The US is now keen to pitch the F/A-18 or F-16 fighter aggressively as a potential ‘Make in India’ fighter, a deal which could be worth more than $20 billion.
