Stone pelters on Monday (15 April) attacked the convoy of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Bijbihara, South Kashmir. As per journalist Aditya Raj Kaul, a J&K policeman was injured in the process.
Mufti was reportedly returning back after praying at a Dargah in Khiram village. A vehicle was also damaged in the process and security forces had to cordon of the area to provide safe passage to her.
Incidentally, it can be recalled that her erstwhile government had withdrawn cases registered against 9,730 stone pelters between 2008 and 2017. The government had also given amnesty to over 4,000 youths involved in ‘minor’ stone pelting incidents in the last few years.
Apart from being the Chief Minister Mufti also held the Home Ministry while being in alliance with the BJP.
Mufti has courted controversy in recent days by uttering statements like Indian Army will become an ‘occupational force’ in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) if Article 370 is revoked.
Continuing with the belligerent rhetoric, she added that BJP national president would not be permitted to set foot in the state if its special status is withdrawn. Mufti also said that every single Kashmiri would fight to preserve Article 35A.
