The Western Railways has decided to continue with the introductory, concessional fares for Mumbai’s first air-conditioned local train, till 31 May, reports Times Now.
The Ministry of Railways has decided to continue with the introductory ticket fares to travel in India’s first air-conditioned electric multiple unit (EMU). Hence, the base fare for a single journey ticket shall remain at 1.2 times that of the first class tickets.
These AC EMU trains are running since 25 December 2017. It was decided to have an introductory fare for the duration of the first six months. It was also planned to hike the fare from 1.2 times to that of the first-class ticket to 1.3 times. But, repeated extensions have kept the fare constant.
The local AC train earned around 19 crores for the year 2018-19 and is getting positive reviews from the passengers. In April 2019 alone, the earning stood at Rs 1.84 crore.
Currently, the AC EMU runs 12 trips for five days a week, on the Churchgate to Virar section of the Western Railway.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
