The Supreme Court on Wednesday (30th November) stated that all cinema theatres must play the National Anthem, accompanied by the National Flag before the start a film. It also stated that everyone present must stand and pay respect to the anthem.
The Central Government in turn has stated that it will forward order and circulate it to Chief Secretaries of each state, as well as publish it on print and electronic media.
With a firm directive to not “dramatise“ the matter, the apex court has also stated that no abridged version could be played, especially in the form of commercial advertisements.
